Ponyhawk: His Story.

A boy shares his story.

My name is Bilal A. Krishna, but most people, they call me "Ponyhawk".  It's 'cause I wear my hair in a weird fashion, but while it drives my parents crazy, it suits me just fine.  I am 14 years old and live with my parents, Sita and Arminder, in Woonsocket, Rhode Island.

In addition to my parents, I have my little sisters Jinashi and Lanitha, who are ten and six.  Then you have my Ma's parents, who also live with us.  We are a pretty big family.

I like to do  many things, among them skateboard, play basketball, football, or soccer (any sport, really), tinker around with my computer, do math or word puzzles, watch medical shows on tv (I would like to become a doctor, just like my Dad; he's a thoracic surgeon), and draw or write stories.  Most people say I am extremely intellectual, which I am.  I am a certified genius; I am a member of MENSA and my parents expect me to do my very best on my school assignments.

I am Hindi; we go to a Hindi temple here in Woonsocket; we also have friends who are Hindi.  It sure helps having people in your life who have a lot of common because more often than not, I feel like a loose wheel or a stranger, even among faces that are familiar to me.

My hero is Sanjay, this singer they had on American Idol a few years back.  He was this skinny East Indian kid who made a statement for himself with his killer good boyish looks, pleasant demeanor, and of course, his talent as a singer and songwriter.  He also had the hair, which was total mondo bizarro, to put it mildly (but I thought it was cool).  I would like to be a singer like Sanjay Malakar, but to tell you the truth, singing in front of large groups of people absolutely terrifies me, so if I do any singing, it's gonna be right in the shower.

Well, I gotta run.  School is about to end, and if I don't want to miss the bus (and I don't), I'd best gather up my things.  I will write in here again another day; until then, this is Bilal A. Krishna saying so long!

~Bilal (Ponyhawk).  :)
