You can't trick the Land of All. Read about the little freckled face boy and how he thought he could.
I hope you have read the short story, The Land of All. If not I suggest you read about the Land of All and come back to this little tale. Adventureís in the Land of All, A lesson learned. It will help you appreicate this little story more.
Thanks for reading,
I know, I will go to the Land Of All and Iíll give. Yeah Iíll give just enough! Iíll take just enough too! Thought the little freckled face boy.
I am tried of always having to do for others. I want to do what I want to when I want to do it.
Iíll make them think I give. They always have to be positive, giving and tolerant. They will have to tolerate me. Who says when enough is enough? Iíll find me a house on easy street. I will have those meek, humble Alltonians eating out of the palm of my hands. Good idea huh! Know why I will? Cause I can.
So the little freckled face boy packed his knap- sack and set off to the Land Of All. He closed his eyes and clicked his heels but nothing happened. So he tried a different pair of shoes but when he opened his eyes he was still in his own room. What is going on here. If all you have to do is click you heels! That is a bunch of none sense. I should have known better than to believe in fairytales.
Frustrated and exhausted from his foolish attempts the little freckled face boy laid down for a nap. When he awoke he was very hungry. He remembered the fried apple pies in his knapsack that his mother had baked for him. He also remembered the day he had to pick the apples and how mad it had made him. Why should I have to do all the work? She is the one who wanted to make them he though as he took a big bite out of the pie.
Still bound and determined to get to The Land Of All the little freckle face boy decided to pretend to be very humble and giving. He knew it would be hard but he was willing to give just once and only for as long as it took to get there. There he would get paid back for all his efforts.
First he was nice to his sister by letting her use the ketchup first at lunch. But when she turned up the squeeze bottle the lid fell off and ketchup went everywhere. The little freckle face boy just laughed. He knew he had loosen the lid.
He spent the rest of the day doing nice things. People was praising him for his cooperation and helpfulness. It did feel good he though to hear those good compliments. But what would they do if he said no to their silly request? He was keeping score and would be repaid when he got to The Land Of All.
The next morning when he awoke he though today is the day. I have been nice long enough. He washed his face and combed his hair and again filled his knapsack. He stood in the middle of the room and clicked his old tan boots together. He clenched his fist and closed his eyes so tight he though they was going to pop.
But he could stand the pain. Way down inside he felt the determination brewing.
The residence of All could sense how much the little freckle face boy wanted to be a part of them. But they also knew his unwillingness to follow the rules. They were very giving and tolerant beings so they decided to give him a chance. Even thought they knew it could jeopardize their own peaceful existence.
At that moment the little freckle face boy opened his eyes and for an instant felt the most peaceful feeling. Wow he thought what a rush holding your breath will give you. Still not realizing he had been given a chance he clicked his heels again. This time when he opened his eyes he found himself standing in the middle of a forest. Tall pines all green and plush. The ground was covered in soft brown needles. So soft it would make the perfect bed.
As he walked around The Land Of All he noticed everyone doing their share. The mother was hanging the laundry to dry, the father was hoeing the garden. The children had cleaned their rooms, finished their chores and were out to play. Yuck! Thought the little freckle face boy. Those kids donít know what fun is. I think Iíll show them. But first I have to be nice. At that moment the biggest boy hit the ball and it landed just at the little freckle face boyís feet. His first thought was to grab the ball and run. But he decided in order to gain their trust he should throw it back, and so he did. ďThanks!Ē said the biggest boy. ďDo you want to play?Ē he ask. Yeah, Iíll play thought the little freckled face boy. Iíll play you right out of you happy self.
He noticed the smallest girl was up to bat. Girls playing ball! She needs to go find a doll. Bet I can make her cry he whispered to himself. Then the little freckled face boy walked up to her and took the bat right out of her hands. Itís my turn, said the smallest girl, but thatís okay. You go ahead. You was nice and brought our ball back to us. It is always nice to share and make new friends, she said as she took her place in the outfield.
What! She didnít cry. She must be a tomboy. She must be use to boys pushing her around he laughed to himself. The little freckle face
boy hit the ball. He hit it so hard it flew across the pitchers head and way out into the out field right into the smallest girls glove!
