  Jo Condrill's Success Story
We were in the air thirteen hours, traveled 10,000 miles, and it looked like we were landing in New York City. Beijing sparkled in the night. My first trip to China was definitely an adventure! I was a member of a trade mission sponsored by Los Angeles County and the Asia Pacific-USA Chamber of Commerce. The purpose of the trip was to begin to establish contacts and consider the possibility of joint ventures with Chinese businesses. There are already many American firms in China: McDonalds, WalMart, Kinko’s, Microsoft, and others. My hope was to get a Chinese publisher to translate and distribute my books and later to do some management training in China.

The Chinese are experts at networking. Everyone, including the highest ranking officials, presented their business cards, with both hands, to each of us. I ran out of cards about half way through the nine-day trip! In Beijing we saw the Finance District where modern high-rise buildings have been built according to a grand plan. The Olympics will be staged in Beijing in 2008 and they aim to be ready. We were briefed about plans for the Finance District and had lunch hosted by the Vice Governor. I later met with two publishers and a television producer.

We next visited Qixia (pronounced she'sha), a relatively new city in Shandong Province. It is the number one apple-producing location in China. The Vice Mayor, ZHOU Jun, Ph.D. chaired a negotiation session between local business persons and our group. They were eager to discuss business; we were on the right track for establishing contacts. There is much to be learned. We relaxed at a huge outdoor celebration of the apple festival where celebrity performers from all over the country entertained an audience of 10,000 with song and dance. It was tremendous!

My last stop was Huangshi in Hubei Province on the Yangtze River. It is heavily industrialized and very cosmopolitan, far more modern than I anticipated. We toured a clutch-making factory, a steel plant and a clothing manufacturer. When we left the hotel at 6:30 am the streets were crowded with school children, entrepreneurs in small shops, and street vendors already in full swing. We saw parks and wide sidewalks where people were dancing in the evening.

I have now signed a contract with the China International Radio Press to translate and distribute my book, Take Charge of Your Life!

If you have never visited China, I’d highly recommend it. A trade mission gives you a different perspective and, if Stacy Sun is the leader of your group, you’ll get VIP treatment! Call me know if you need more information.1 800 697-5680
