I wrote my first book when I was deployed with the U.S. Army in Iraq. When deployed, there was nothing to do, no movie theater, no tennis courts and no golf courses. To cure my boredom I decided to pick up a pen and a notepad and begin writing. I wrote down tips and tricks I used to make it though Army basic training. I then asked other soldiers their tips and tricks. After about 6 months, I had several notepads of useful information. I decided to consolidate all the tips I wrote in a user friendly manual. I didn’t intend on publishing these tips, rather provide a helpful guide to recruits entering the military. After deployment, I researched self-publishing and decided to get the book printed. I called the book The Ultimate Basic Training Guidebook. It was quickly noticed by a military publisher (Savas Beatie) and the rest was history. For over 4 years it has been a best-seller and my website www.UltimateBasicTraining.com gets thousands of unique hits every month.
Over the years, I learned how to sell books online, and I learned that skill well. I just released a book called Social Networking for Authors (www.SellaTonofBooks.com) that teaches authors how to sell books online. I believe it will be even more popular than my basic training book.
