  R.C. Drake's Success Story
My mother was only able to go to the 8th grade, due to her family having to move so much when she was a young girl. Some of the smaller towns that they had to live in, didn't even have a school to go to. My grandfather had to follow the jobs wherever he could find work. Times were hard in the late 1800's early 1900's. Mother taught herself to read. She could never spell very well so she didn't like to write often. But she always said "Get your education, it's the most important thing in life." She loved to read, especially mysteries.
I lost my mother in 1991, but before she died she had tried her hand at writing a book. Since her spelling was poor, she was constantly asking for my help. She drew me into her world of "never give up." I lost my job of fifteen years and within six months of that my husband lost his 401K, like most everyone else. I didn't know how I was going to send my teenage son through college. But that was very important to me. Since my parents could not afford to send me. I remembered mother saying,"Never give up." She had taught herself to read out of pure effort. I tried to think of some way that I could make extra money for my sons college and I thought of when I had critiqued my mothers writing. She told me on several occasions that she thought I had a gift. I really think that she was just trying to draw me toward finding a talent.
I put pen to paper and the ideas just began to flow. My friends and family have since encouraged me greatly especially my sons. My husband is my greatest book promoter, he tells everyone how proud he is of me. I hope that I can live up to his expectations.
Never quit on your education, without the ability to read, there are no open doors for you to find a decent job. As my mother would say,"Never give up.
