Living in Iowa City, Iowa, and being surrounded by students and graduates of the University of Iowa's world renowned Writer's Workshop, the introduction of my 4-volume set of 200 of my most highly appraised poems, "A Lyrical Look a Life", within a community of such distinguished peers was needless to say, a bit intimidating. Surprisingly,I was soon asked to appear on a public television program called "The Poet's Corner" and received some very rewarding exposure in what is so typically a tough world to find recognition in.
All but 2 of the journals I submitted early examples of my poems to were kind enough to accept and publish my work, and the local independent bookstores and libraries, along with Barnes and Noble, have all elected to carry the book as well. This, of course, is what offers new and even seasoned writers the re-encouragement often necessary to cope with the difficulties of writing and submitting year after year! Still patiently waiting for MY plethora of genuinely meaningful awards...which, for a "rhymer," is a fairly lofty expectation, I must now, once again, morph into "the writing mode"...
Write on...Mark
