Some months ago I posted two pieces of writing in AD:
-The Long And Loyal Vigil (non-fiction)
-A Kind Of Death (poem).
Last month (August 2002) I entered these two pieces in a writing competition sponsored by Scottish publisher, Fledgling Press, in conjunction with the Edinburgh Book Festival. First prize of AUS$140.00 was donated by famous UK writer, Alan Bennett.
I was greatly encouraged to submit these entries by the positive feedback I got from members of the AD community (Thank you!).
The good news is that the poem, *A Kind Of Death* won first prize and the non-fiction article got to third place in the top six placegetters.
I am recording this success because I believe that if a writer of my average ability can win top prizes in a writing competition, anyone can!
Therefore, I would encourage one and all of the talented writers whose works I have read on AD to enter as many competitions as possible as just another way of getting positive feedback about their work. |
