For several years I have been writing. I did it primarily as a creative release. It was and still is wonderful therapy.
Several people wanted to read some of the things I had written, so I allowed them to see them. They were very raw and unedited.
Much to my suprise, they seemed to like them, so I began in earnest to write and to submit those writings to Agents and Publishers. Needless to say, and you know the experience is you write, no one wanted them.
A friend of mine suggested that I do a "demo tape" of my first book. I thought about it and decided, "What did I have to loose, but a little bit of money." The day I went to pick up the proof from the publisher, he informed me that Ingram Book, one of the, if not THE largest Book distributor in the country, wanted to pick up the book for National Distribution.
Now whether or not I sell 10 books or 10,000 books, it has been a wonderful experience. To say that I am guardedly optimstic would be an understatement, but I have had a great time.
No matter what your dream, if you keep trying it may come true. Remember, not everyone is going to love what you write, but if you have done your best - Stand up straight, look at them and say - "So what have you written lately?" |
