Who would've guessed that being bitten by a dog and chased by a bear would one day turn into a lucrative writing assignment? As I was bandaging up my leg, I had no idea that the experience would one day appear in my essay "Bicycles and Bagpipes" in the neat new anthology Cycling's Greatest Misadventures (Casagrande Press).
Years of hiking, exploring nature, working at an isolated mountaintop weather observatory, and collecting rejection slips finally inspired several books, including North to Katahdin (Milkweed Editions) and Tying Down the Wind (Tarcher/Putnam). |
