  Maryanne Raphael's Success Story
I received my first rejection slip at the age of five. My grandfather read stories to me from St. Anthony's Messenger. So I created my own story PRAY FOR THE WANDERER and Grandpa typed it and mailed it to our favorite magazine. One month later I received a printed rejection slip. It could have been the end of my career, but I was already addicted to storytelling and continued.
I wrote 13 unpublished novels and collected many more rejection slips. Then a friend of mine got a job as editor of Captainís Publications which published several men's magazines. He had read some of my novels and asked me to turn the sexy chapters into short stories. I did and he bought every one of them.
So I wrote an article "Women can sell to Men's Magazines" and sold it to The Writer. It was mentioned on the Front page of the magazine.
I published in Horoscope Magazine, the Catholic Digest, Virtue, Look, Listen, Catholic Times, East Village Other. My interview with Margaret Mead appeared in Chatelaine Magazine in Canada and Brideís Magazine in the US.
With some friends I started Write On Press and we published How to Survive as a Freelance Writer and Raps on Astrology.
Highway Books of Canada published Your Psychic Powers, The Key to Success.
During this time I also wrote Akita, A dog for all seasons.
Then my friend Jenifer Wolf and I wrote a book about Runaways which got good reviews and became a best seller in Japan.
The Authors Guild brought out a paperback version of the original book.
A very small company published my book Mother Teresa, Called To Love
I discovered Print On Demand and published The Man Who Loved Funerals, Alexandria (with Patricia Walden), Along Came A Spider, A Personal Look at Madness. Anais Nin, The Voyage Within.
In December 2005, I signed contracts with two publishers. On October 10, 2006, Hopewell Publications released Garden of Hope, Autobiography of a Marriage (written by my former husband and me with a Preface by our son.)
In September 2007, St. Anthony's Messenger Press, the same company that gave me my first official rejection slip, will publish What Mother Teresa Taught Me.

Although I am not making any money I consider myself a success because I am doing what I love to do and sharing it with readers, many of whom let me know how much they enjoy the books.
