Having written the better part of my life it was a shock to be told that what I write was considered "Cowboy Poetry". I looked at it only as my way of documenting my Western liestyle. I have been performing my poetry live for 25 years and have had the opportunity to share it across the United States, Canada, Mexico and most recently, in Ireland. I am honored to be the Resident Cowgirl Poet of Cowboys-n-Cowgirls.com, the best collection of Cowboy Poets on the web.
I recieved the Academy of Western Artist Award (the Cowboy Oscar) as Cowgirl Poet of the Year and hold several Nighthawk Storyteller Awards as well as a Western Poets Circle Award.
I am a Rancher and manage the 4DH Ranch (www.4dhranch.com), a cutting and ranch-work horse breeding operation in NE Oklahoma. I am a 4 time cancer survivor who believes that all women should listen to their bodies and not be afraid to confront a Dr. when they think she/he is wrong. I am currently 5 years clear.
I have two award winning CDs of Cowboy Poetry and Music and a chapbook. I have a book of Cherokee poetry due out this year and will be featured in an Oklahoma Centennial Cowboy Poetry Book "Oklahoma is My Home" with several other Native Oklahoma poets. My next Cd will feature my Cherokee poetry, and another is outlined to contain my Nighthawk, Guardian of the Trail series. I am also working with D. Enise on a book of poetry honoring the Horse.
Many thanks to Authors Den for the international exposure they get our poetry and events. Through Authors Den I have been contacted by people for performances and who want to purchase books and CDs.
I hope everyone who has a poem in their soul will share it in one form or another. It is the poets who make the Spirit of the West live on.
