  Pamilla deLeon- Lewis's Success Story
My summer was very productive. God really blessed me. Smiling Thru the Tears- a Breast Cancer Survivor Odyssey, kept me busy.
From May- October, I had several engagements per week, lots of Book Signings, Books Discussions and Motivational Speaking engagements. I was in NJ, GA, ALA, Conn, Hofstra U, Public Libraries, Women's Organizations, HS, Corporations, and Invitation Only- Meet the Author, Book Signing/ Book Discussion. I did 'Black Perspective' television show and several radio interviews. My breast cancer survivor newsletter subscription grew tremendously and now Metamorphosis is online.
My summer certainly out-shone the shadow that the side-effects of chemo tried to cast on my life. It was a challenge but I overcame every vertigo mishap, every heart palpitation episode, every whacky blood pressure reading, every neuropathy painful, tingling/numbness issue, every chronic pain in my neck, shoulders, arms, lower back, legs, etc. I was too busy to care.
I am still learning how to depend on and accept help. I learned humility and how to accept acts of love.
In mid- late October, I received word from the Pulitzer Prize Committee that my book is being sent to the selection jurors for poetry... fingers and toes crossed until spring when the results will be announced.
I am happy to announce that my book- Smiling Thru the Tears, is the Montgomery Readers Book Club- Book of the Month for January 2006.
They are hosting a Dinner-Dance on December 17, which starts @ 8.00 pm. Earlier that evening they will be hosting a Meet the Author/ Book Signing event for another author and me.
I have been asked to be the Keynote Speaker (motivational) that evening.

January 7, 2006- Motivational Speaking/ Meet the Author @ The College of New Rochelle.

January 9, 2006- Motivational Speaking/ Meet the Author @ College of New Rochelle

February 15, 2006- Co-ordinating and Hosting Black History Month/ Brooklyn Public Library- 'Read Aloud Program' for grades 5-8.

'I Fought the Fight' & 'Conversations with Cancer' from my book- Smiling Thru the Tears, have been nominated - Poem of the Year 2005, on Muses Review.
I am happy to announce that- Conversations won -Best Tragic Poem 2005 and that is a good thing, a reason to rejoice. Just when I thought things were settling down with Book #1, I was pleasantly surprised with an invitation from- The Montgomery Book Club with a second invitation for a book discussion and poetry reading from 'Smiling Thru the Tears' on September,17 2006 @ 5.00p.m. I'll also read one of my poems from Book #2- 'Beyond the Tears.'
On Tuesday 19, 2006, I am headed to Capitol Hill with the American Cancer Society. I am a Legislative Ambassador and with other survivors and supporters, we'll be telling our stories to the media and congress. The fight goes on and I am still in there swinging. Breast cancer don't know what it did when it messed with me. I am relentless and in God I am strong and determined; still cancer free, I am continuing to wage a war against this heartless and cruel demon, and I intend to continue to do my part until my last breath or until a permanent cure is found whichever comes first. To survivors I say- upward and onward.
