I have always written and told stories. When we first came to America from Down Under, I used to tell my two littlies stories every night at bedtime, about the Aussie animals. I didn't want them to forget where they came from or their distant heritage. When I became a teacher's aid, I told the kids there fun tales off the top of my head. They were fascinated by my accent and the animals in Australia. Writing down my stories seemed the natural thing to do. Putting them in rhyme was a snap.
I guess three things helped me become a respected and successful member of the children's writing profession, plus a published writer: my long time participation in the international, online CW (Children's Writers)list, my regular "Musings" column, and my Manuscript Critique Service. Write! Write! Write! That was my motto.
Then came my 6 book series of rhyming picture books, now available from my website on CD and Download. Illustrated with charm, quirkiness, and imagination, by talented artists, this fun, educational series tells about aimals in the US and Australia. I was lucky - all of them received terrific reviews.
These days, school visits are a fun things for me to do. The kids are so interested and appreciative. Their comments make comedy Central look dull! However, with all the book promotion stuff I have to work on, critiques for clients, and school visits, my own writing time has dwindled noticably. I need more hours in the day, mates. Can anyone help?
