An American family disintegrates during a long hot summer in France amid allegations of a crime.
Bradley Lapunt is an accomplished man. He is retired Harvard professor who has written many best selling books. He has the ego and arrogance to match, making him an easy target in a world that has changed around him. While on vacation in France following his son Philips professional bicycle racing career, he discovers a nude beach and takes an odd fascination to it. In spite of their own sins, his wife Martilyn and son Philip take note of this new interest in nude beaches and push local police to investigate him. He is ultimately exonerated, but not until he divorces Marilyn and Philip is caught using performance enhancing drugs and is deported back to the United States.
