CHRYSALIS a novel by Althea Horner

"Chrysalis" is the story of two women who meet as patient and psychoanalyst. Connie Phillips, an editor at a small publishing house in New York City, is a captive of her own sexuality but is ignorant of what her heart truly desires. Psychologist Margaret Stern long ago cast her lot with her intellect and is now a prisoner of that decision. Each must confront her own inner demons. Lines blur. What is fact, what is fantasy? Who is villain, who is victim? Who is patient, who is therapist?

The human dramas of love and hate, hope and despair, life and death, play out on the stages of their daily lives. The people close to them are caught in the same mortal web. Some cannot survive. Others persevere and triumph.

Professional Reviews

The Midwest Book Review
CHRYSALIS is a richly textured, complexly layered psychological novel that thoughtfully rings true to a dilemma prevalent in our urban dysfunctional culture of evolving gender roles and deepest human needs.

American Journal of Psychoanalysis Book Review
...this is as enjoyable a page-turner as we might find anywhere...a genre of fiction authored by psychoanalysts such as Irvin Yalom and Althea Horner...we wonder why we do not enjoy more of this genre, so wonderfully exemplified by this gem of a book.

...so rarely do you read such a riveting book about real relationships, a book so authentic in its depiction of therapy it goes straight to the heart.
