Brendan Carroll's Blog
The adventure of the Chevalier du Morte continues, this time focusing on the philosopher's stone and what it truly is.
Mark Ramsay's troubles increase as he tries unsuccessfully to come to terms with the fact that he has been gone from his beloved Scotland for 21 years during which time Meredith has married his best Brother and constant nemesis, Lucio Dambretti. On top of his woes, he must use his alchemical mysteries to help place the fabled Philosopher's Stone in the Golden Key that unlocks the Ark of the Covenant. While he's busy trying to reclaim his life and his home, an ancient enemy resurfaces and begins to wreak havoc on the Order of the Red Cross of Gold.
...her eyes traveled down to his stomach and she fell silent at the sight of the dragon’s claws.
He grabbed the towel from the rack and covered the colorful design with it.
“Now, Meredith, this is not a good idea. I may not be as honorable you think,” he protested. “You’ll get us both killed at any rate and we’ll be deserving of it, no less, or I will for sure. You’re being totally unfair coming in on a man like that without any warning. You could get yourself hurt…” The words continued to pour out in desperation until she cut him off by placing one hand over his mouth.
“What is this, Mark Andrew?” She ignored him and tried to pull the towel away from him.
“Stop it, Meredith,” he whispered loudly and yanked it back.
“Where did you get these scars?” she asked and looked into his eyes. “What is this bullcrap about fighting dragons that Lucio was talking about? Where have you been? You know where those babies came from, don’t you? Are they yours?”
“Merry, please. Ist neither th’ time nor th’ place t’ be inspectin’ yur Brother and actin’ loike a bloody inquisitor,” he answered angrily and tried to push past her. He would leave her in the bathroom with her questions. “You wouldn’t understand the damned thing, if I told you, which I’m not going to because it’s not proper to speak with anoother man’s wife in the bath... in private... alone. You can read my report. It’s in the archives. Th’ whole bloody affair for oll th’ gud twill do ye and then ye can coll me a liar as well.”

What is in a sign?
Deeply captivated by this series of books that I'm going to have withdrawals when there are no more. Brendan Carroll you simply cannot retire.
Hooked and captivated!
I first found this series when I received the first book as a free e-book. It was so different and very engaging. I decided to buy the second book and found it even better. The same was true of the third and the fourth. I just finished this one, and I have to say it was the best so far. I now have two other people reading them. I am definitely hooked for the entire series. I have given up watching tv because these books are so much better than anything that's on. The books are full of noble knights, evil villains, maidens fair, maidens not-so-fair, and lots of adventure and suspense. There is magic and mysticism, Christianity and paganism all wound together to form a tapestry of fabulous stories that will take you to the places you have never seen and knightly quests. I am glad it's such a long series so I will be reading for quite some time to come. I'm surprised that more people haven't commented on these books. I think that will change if the word gets out!
