The Gospel is not just a message but the very power of God for salvation. How would you define the Gospel? Is it mere information in a pamphlet? Is it only a sequence of steps to follow? How do you see your purpose in the Gospel? How does that purpose impact your life? Because what we teach will normally penetrate others no more deeply than it has penetrated us.
This unique study on the book of Romans illustrates the power of God for salvation. None of us were saved by our own power and none of us will walk by faith on our own power. The righteous do not live by fear; the righteous do not live by law; the righteous do not live by rigidity. The righteous will live because they live by faith ... powerfully! And that's the Good News presented in this book.

Excerpt
During my agnostic time period I began to question the value of being alive. It was then that God began to work through her to reach me. I wasn’t miserable or anything, but I was empty, alone, and life had no real meaning. Had someone held my head under water I would have fought to survive. And yet, had someone proved to me there was not a God and I could take a pill and be eternally void, I probably would have taken it.
In my early years being a Christian and developing into a minister I still had a lot of questions about salvation. Was I working hard enough? Did I study and pray enough? What about all those other denominations that confessed Jesus as Lord and walked the walk but had different opinions on issues such as baptism, grace, and other doctrine? What if they didn’t have perfect doctrine? What if I was in error? What if I wasn’t good enough…… but in time the Gospel of Romans put that all to rest and declared that Jesus, the Propitiation or Sacrifice of Atonement (Romans 3:25) was and is enough!

Biblical Ideas Expressed In Today's Language
Dear Ernie,
I have your book on my bedside table and read a chapter every night. Your down-to-earth prose is easy to read and leads me to a better understanding of Romans. I know that biblical men talked like we do but I seldom see biblical ideas so well expressed in today’s language. I’m enjoying your book. I thought it would be preachy but instead its down to earth language is amusing and keeps me reading. Now I know what you were doing during all those lonely early morning bible studies. Your notes were preparing you to write a story that anyone can understand and if the hip morons turn their noses up and refuse to understand plain English, they will have no one to blame but themselves. Keep writing.
Sophia,
A Purpose For Our Hardships
I love the book of Romans. I always have, since I became a Christian in 1978. But “Living by the Power of Faith has brought a new joy to my life. I’ve gotten something from this book that I hadn’t experienced before. I can’t put my hand on it ‘totally’. I’ve just ordered 6 more to give as gifts. Mr Heavin’s review of Romans brings the gospel into a new perspective–one that I should have caught onto long ago. I saw that Romans was more a book of transformation for my life than of theology of the Christian religion. Mr Heavin includes apologetics in his book, and gives us a purpose for the hardships and suffering we have to endure.
This book is easy to read, but brings the reader to want to “stop” and reflect so many parts of their life. You want to ponder the points made, and apply them as you walk with Christ. It’s a book that I’ll pick up again and again, and share with new and old Christians alike. Great book!
