“I know. I want to become a family,” her voice dropped to a whisper, “but something about our venture gives me the chills. I’m so terrified.”
“What else can I say, Sweetie? You say you want me, then you chicken out. What’s up with that?”
“I’m sorry. I just can’t explain it. I get an uneasy feeling when we talk about leaving Cool River. I’m not feeling us, Justice—it’s—it’s like there’s something waiting for us, out there. …something worse than living here.”
“Don’t say that. It’s just cold feet.” He held her tightly. Her heart beat loudly against his chest. “Come on—come on. You’re shaking all over.” Catching her by the shoulders, he raised her chin. Faith averted her gaze, but Justice turned her face to meet his. “You trust me, don’t you?”
“Of course I do, Justice. It’s not that. I’ve had nightmares about our leaving. Something doesn’t feel right about it.”
