This travel memoir takes the reader on a delightful journey through the sights smells and sounds of the Italian countryside

Plagued by doubts about their upcoming retirement, Paul and Joyce decide to take an extended trip through Italy, and the decision becomes the spark for a life-changing experience.

Paul and Joyce enroll in cooking school, hike the sun-kissed Tuscan countryside, connect with long-lost family, and swim off the majestic Amalfi and Sicilian coasts. They fall in love with the sensual delights of Venice, immerse themselves in a religious service, and listen to music of the masters in magnificent churches.

Through their month of travel, the two gain a greater appreciation for the Italian culture and revel in the warmth of the Italian people. But even more, they deepen their own relationship through small, tender moments and realize the gift that retirement has given them: time together.

Dolce Far Niente is a subtle love story fused with the culinary and cultural delights of Italy, creating a heady mixture sure to inspire and delight anyone who dreams of traveling.

If you have second thoughts about retiring, you may want to read Paul L. Gentile's "Dolce Far Niente: Sweet Doing Nothing." Gentile and his wife planned a trip to the country of his forebearers. As this humorous and well-written book shows, Italy will aleviate any doubts one may have about retirement.

We are with them as they take classes at a cooking school, hike the rural trails of Tuscany, sit down with family members and enjoy the sun drenched coastline of Amalfi and Sicily. If you have never been to Italy, Gentile's descriptive writing can give you a firsthand view of the land.

This book is a refreshing romantic tale. Too many books today have limited love stories to only the very young. As Gentile shows us, the most engaging and dynamic of love stories can happen between a husband and wife of 40 years, especially when Italy is the setting.

Italy has given the Gentiles a new grasp of life together and also a wonderful book for all to relish.
