Lafitte's Black Box

When he can no longer control what is real and what is imagined, Deveraux Parker realizes that his dream has become reality.

Discovering a box that has been buried for two centuries, he finds himself on a quest for Lafitte's treasure through modern day New Orleans.

Since moving to the Big Easy, Parker has had a hard time fitting in and finding friends, but as events unravel, he makes some unsavory pals and begins an unexpected adventure taking him to the oldest and most mysterious places in old New Orleans. The past and present collide as he tries to escape from his dream before he becomes part of the past.

Excerpt
The old man walked into the city square, thin and bony, though you could not tell from the bulky coat he wore. He made his way to the park bench near the statue in the center of the square. No one seemed to pay him any attention; in fact, no one seemed to notice him at all. Slowly he walked until he stood before the statue. The statue was famous, famous for the man who had been the hero to the city. He saved the city from inva-sion by the British and would later become president of the United States. He was immortalized on his horse. In his right hand, he held his hat, waving it to the crowd. His horse stood on its hind legs, the front feet flailing in the air. The old man found a bench and sat down.
How long had it been? How long had he been away, away from the city he once ruled? He used to walk these streets. Eve-ryone knew him. They would call his name as he passed. Ladies adored him and men feared him. By some, he was loved and by others, he was hated. No one was impartial. Everyone had an opinion. There was no neutral ground. No, he didn’t know how long it had been since he was last here. The statue was erected in 1856. He’d known this hero. He’d stood with him before this battle. He’d shared in his victory. The hero was dead now, dead for almost fifteen years.

A TREASURE FOUND
Fort Lauderdale, September 2009: How often has a dream come true? More than we know, or can guess. Mostly, such visions are relegated to imagination, hallucination and pure fantasy. However, fantasy is an integral part of life today and when a tale comes along that flawlessly combines fact and fancy…it, too, is a dream come true. In his new book, Lafitte’s Black Box, author Jake Webber presents a story that catches the imagination and holds us in its grip until the very last page.

When he can no longer control what is real and what is imagined, Deveraux Parker realizes that his dream has become reality.

Discovering a box that has been buried for two centuries, he finds himself on a quest for Lafitte's treasure through modern day New Orleans.
