Emergence of Hope depicts the questionable psychic experience of Stacy Coombs, a typical teenager who resides in the suburb of Westfield, New Jersey. She has a series of dreams starring a stranger named Peter Jorgenson that reveal his escape from the crumbling World Trade Center on 9/11. The serial-like dreams attempt to persuade her that the stranger survived the World Trade Center attack and is hopelessly wandering through the streets of New York City, hampered by a concussion and the loss of his ability to speak. Her parents, Monica Hogan and Paul Coombs, are initially of the opinion that Stacy’s dreams have been coerced by the World Trade Center tragedy. Stacy struggles to convince herself and those around her that what she has envisioned in her night-movies actually transpired. Follow Stacy Coombs as she embarks on a dramatic search for a survivor of the World Trade center attack.

Excerpt

Debris rained down all around him. The gray smoke—while asphyxiating his breath—was not dense enough to curtail his vision. He could see the ninety-degree outline of each step. The despairing screams he left on eighty-seven were still assailing his ears. The miasmic stench was alien to him—although his mind experienced a sickening recognition that knew the source. The terror-stricken expressions that flanked him resembled mannequins employed to portray holocaust victims as they trudged toward Auschwitz. Ghost-white faces frozen in terror. Forty-two more floors…

Reader Reviews for "Emergence Of Hope"

Reviewed by Joyce Scarbrough 4/14/2003
This book is so aptly named because it stirs such a feeling of hope in the reader from the very beginning. The characters are all such likable, realistic people that you feel as if you are reading about something that happened to friends of yours and have a personal connection with them. You travel with them on their journey back from the nightmare of 9/11, feeling all the anguish, disheartenment and finally, the joy they experience as they fight to put their lives back together, and you close the book with a sense of triumph and the feeling that your own hope has been restored as well.

Jeff,

I want to read this book. It's refreshing to see something written in the present tense! Of all the horrors experienced during 9/11 I think the public is ready to read a story about someone who may have survived the atrosity. The symbolism of those caught in the horror to those of the Holocuaust was ingenius my friend. What a cliff hanger you left us with with the excerpt. I was so ready to download a chapter to read more, but alas, non was to be found! Now I will wait til the book comes out I suppose!!! And I have so little patience to wait on my own. LOL
