Trials of the Bloodstone is an epic dark fantasy novel that spins a grand tale about a mysterious clan that are seeking to rescue an important member of their society that is being held captive by an unknown powerful entity. They will attempt to rescue their clan member by finding a powerful artifact known as the Bloodstone to aid them in their rescue attempt.
When main character Davarian is assigned the task by his clan to find the Bloodstone he finds himself traveling alongside with a mysterious member of his own society as well as an unlikely band of bounty hunters that he does not trust.
Davarian does not realize however he will find himself knee deep in dragons, alien creatures, and dark evil powers all looking stop him on his quest to secure the Bloodstone and to free his fellow clan member.
She found herself once again surrounded by mist only this time there was actual scenery besides the mists itself.
She was slowly walking through a cemetery littered and clustered with tombstones so tightly packed together it was hard to not trip over one.
As the mists swirled around her ankles and up her back she shuddered and placed her arms around her waist for she suddenly felt very cold. This place had a sense of foreboding and dread that chilled her to her the very core.
Her bare feet moved through the dead grass and she could feel it poke her heels. She ignored the minor discomfort for the deeper she traveled into cemetery the sense of fear creeping into her began to get worse. She could feel it now in the pit of her stomach and the small tiny hairs on her neck and arms began to rise.
Where was she? What cemetery was this that sent such a chill through her?
As she continued through she was able to make out the outline of a familiar black shadow. This looked like the same shadow from her previous journey into the mists the one who had helped her up and looked just like the man who had been in her room that one night.
Then she heard the soft whisper of a familiar name…
Selana…It said to her as if the mists had grabbed a hold of the words and drifted them over to her.
She slowly walked over to the figure for she was drawn to it every time she saw it and she did not know why.
As she got closer the mists seemed to grow thicker around her and the shadow billowing in from out of nowhere and growing as thick as a soup.
She was still able to make out the outline but that was all as she came to be only arms length from it. She stood there and the chilling cold she felt seemed to subside while she was standing in front of him and for this she felt a sudden wash of relief.
She reached her hand out and as she did the shadow did the same. She saw a man’s hand break through the mist to take her own and through the brief touch she felt even more comforted and safe. She felt him slowly and gently pulling her in towards itself and she did not resist as she slowly walked forward.
Just as she was standing pressed up against the shadowy individual the mists parted with such speed it seemed as if they had been…frightened.
The face that was revealed when the mists broke apart was so terrifying she could see why the mists had fled.
Staring back at her was a visage so horrid and frightening she couldn’t help but let out a scream. It sounded more like a croak in her throat and for some reason the scream didn’t want to come out from her mouth.
The face of the individual staring back at her was completely bald with huge bulging eyes that looked as if they were going to pop out their sockets. Red vein like lines surrounded the pupils which were burning blood red in color.
The skin on the face was stretched and pulled so tightly across the skull she couldn’t believe it didn’t just split in half. The mouth was the most disturbing visage for it was wide open as if in a permanent scream of sheer terror and had absolutely no teeth in the mouth.
She tried to pull away so she could turn around and run but the formerly warm and inviting touch was now gripping her like death itself in a hold that was so painful she fell down to her knees.
A feeling of terror over came her so greatly that she couldn’t help but pull her knees up to her chest and with the arm that wasn’t being grasped by the thing that had her she wrapped it around her pulled in legs.
She began to rock back and forth uncontrollably and then she heard it…a loud and menacing laugh that didn’t come from the one that had its hold on her…but from the very mists itself…
Trials of the Bloodstone Review
Trials of Bloodstone is one of those "special" books. You know one of those books that you read and really begin to care about the characters and what happens to them during the course of the story.
Trials spins an intriguing and compelling story in which someone of importance to main character Davarian’s clan has been captured and held against her will in the dreaded castle Draycov.
Knowing the dangers and horrors that he could face Davarian manages to break into the castle and finds the red headed woman with whom he was searching for.
Finding her bound and chained in one of the castle’s bed chambers he confronts her only to realize that her memory has been suppressed and she does not even remember who Davarian is or even who she is herself.
Somehow being discovered the sound of a number of guards trying to break down the bed chamber door forced Davarian to retreat but he made a sworn promise he would return for her.
Fascinated and drawn to his dark eyes she cannot help but yearn and long for his return even though she does not know why she feels that way for it is as if a fog has been placed over her mind.
Realizing there was an intruder the captain of the castle guard Karn, orders the woman to be tortured but insists that she is not “damaged” too severely or else their Lord Draycov would be extremely upset with them for he has “plans” with her though what those plans could be are known only to the lord of the castle himself.
Davarian goes back to his clan to inform his mistress that the rescue attempt had failed. Displeased with the news the mistress of his clan orders for the clans best warriors to be brought together for they would need to go off on a deadly mission to find and retrieve an artifact of legendary power called the Blood Stone to help them have more of an advantage to make an assault on the castle and save the member of their clan being held prisoner. The only problem is the stone is in the possession of a mighty red dragon.
In order to help “persuade” the dragon to give up the Bloodstone the mistress insists that a relic from the clan called the Scepter of the Dead be brought with the group in the hopes that they can make an equal exchange with the dragon the scepter for the stone.
This group consists of Davarian, a woman called Myst, a mountain of a man named Vorg, an elf named Therian, a plain looking human male called Nevik, and two dire wolves that Davarian becomes companions with named Mikhail and Raven. Davarian however does not trust Nevik as soon as he lays eyes on him and realizes he will have to pay extra attention to him through the mission.
The assembled group from Davarian’s clan begins their journey to find the Bloodstone but they have to go through the dangerous Khoris Mountains. Not only is the journey treacherous enough through the mountains but they will be forced to travel during the day which will extremely hamper their progress for Davarian and Sebastion are effected by sunlight making them weak and sluggish. Fortunately the group has brought special cloaks with them that will not only protect Davarian and Sebastion from the sun’s rays but will also give them an edge over the red dragon’s fiery breath if a battle with it were to ensue.
On their way to the mountains the group encounters several mysterious creatures made of pure arcane magic that are actually constructs or servants to a race called the Thyians. The Thyians were said to bring arcane magic to the world of Arator though others believe the alien like race actually feed off of arcane magic and infiltrated the world in order to gorge off the arcane energies that Arator was rich with.
The ensuing battle between the constructs and the group made them realize that the area was heavily dominated with arcane energies left by the Thyians. Sebastion of the group is able to sense arcane energies and he warns the entire group to be on their guard for around any corner of their journey could be more of the Thyian constructs or the Thyians themselves.
So engaged with the arcane constructs the group did not even notice that they were being followed by an assassin that was hired by Captain Karn himself to find the one that had broken into the castle and to kill him at all costs.
The assassin encounters one of the arcane constructs and during the battle he tries to attack it with one of his prized daggers he has had since his youth called Venom. To his dismay Venom had absolutely no effect on the creature but his other dagger, a silver tipped blade, was effective and it not only wounded the creature but it caused the unstable arcane energies that made up its body to blow up.
Fascinated as to why his silver tipped blade killed the creature he calls it “Magic’s Bane” and realizes it is a weapon that will prove invaluable in his mission to slay his quarry.
Without delving too much more into the story without giving it away I believe this is a good summary about the beginning elements of Trials of the Bloodstone. This dark fantasy book is compelling and the characters are extremely life like and believable in their attitudes and emotions.
If you are looking for a well written and exceptional fantasy book with amazing characters and a gripping plot then Trials of the Bloodstone will not leave you disappointed.
