Erica is a woman who's deeply devoted to her young children and tries to make her failing marriage a success. However, her husband is not interested in her anymore, and even while Erica is struggling to lose weight to please him better, she slowly realizes that her marriage is beyond redemption. Her best (but alas, gay) friend is always at her side, and her Italian family is also there to help her (if you don't count her harsh mother), but it takes the scrumptious headmaster of her children to learn to value herself. The dramatic turn toward the end makes you want to hug your children, and you root for the heroine as she fights to reach her goal of living in Italy. This novel is a tale of hope and of believing that things will work out even if your darkest hour has come.
