Lose weight- or lose him?

Nancy Barone Women's fiction author

Erica Cantelli’s life feels more suffocating than a size 4 dress…

On the surface she’s maintaining the image of successful career woman, perfect wife and a doting mother with two wonderful children.

In reality she’s running out of hours in the day; 6 dress sizes bigger than she wants to be; and the only man who shows her any affection is her gay best friend.

In fact fantasizing about how to kill her increasingly disinterested husband is just about all that keeps Erica sane. That and a whole different type of fantasizing about the incredibly handsome new school principal, Julian Foxham.

When her husband jokes about trading her in for two size tens, Erica knows something has to change. But is another diet really the answer? Or is getting rid of him the fastest path to happiness? Now if she could only stop thinking about the gorgeous Mr Foxham…

For any woman who’s ever felt under-appreciated, or thought about giving up on their dreams. Erica is a laugh-out-loud breath of fresh air.

“It was do or die, meaning that if he didn’t do me tonight I’d kill him. He had to make a damn effort- it couldn’t always be me.“

****

“I was an overweight, under-loved wife and mother of two who when at home dressed like Ernie from Sesame Street on her better days.’

****

“…I can’t keep lying to you. Your body’s putting me off. I begged you to lose weight. I tried giving you all sorts of signs to make you understand.”

I snorted, too hurt to show it. “You mean being an asshole was a sign?”

****

“My Dad is a prick”, I read, and then moaned. I agreed with him fully, of course, but never, ever had I wanted my children to wake up from their innocent childhood and see the truth.”

****

“…I knew all he wanted was to get into my pants again. Which earned him oodles of brownie points.”

Professional Reviews

From author Beate Boeker
Erica is a woman who's deeply devoted to her young children and tries to make her failing marriage a success. However, her husband is not interested in her anymore, and even while Erica is struggling to lose weight to please him better, she slowly realizes that her marriage is beyond redemption. Her best (but alas, gay) friend is always at her side, and her Italian family is also there to help her (if you don't count her harsh mother), but it takes the scrumptious headmaster of her children to learn to value herself. The dramatic turn toward the end makes you want to hug your children, and you root for the heroine as she fights to reach her goal of living in Italy. This novel is a tale of hope and of believing that things will work out even if your darkest hour has come.

Thank you for giving me the chance to review this book, and I wish you loads of success with it!
