All of us have skills. We use different skills according to what we are doing. There are various types of skills too: Soft skills (personal qualities), Basic (or Key) skills and Job specific skills. We acquire skills as we grow and develop, and also learn them through our employed lives.
Soft skills: These are attributes that are linked to our personality, behaviour and nature such as honesty, loyalty, creativity, etc.
Basic skills: The things we do everyday require various degrees of skill, such as planning, literacy, numeracy, technological skills, etc.
Job specific skills: These skills relate directly to our working lives, e.g. a carpenter has studied carpentry, a plumber has studied plumbing.

Most of us have the misconception that we are untalented, yet everyday each of us performs tasks that require different skills. We use organisational, numeracy, decisiveness, assertiveness, literacy, communication and interpersonal skills.
Think about what skills are needed for cooking a meal. We need to be able to read the recipe, calculate timings, use kitchen implements, then afterwards clean and tidy up. How many skills are we using in this one simple everyday exercise that we do automatically and take for granted that we can do?
