Can't Let Go

Can't Let Go is a Romantic Suspence novel.

Lisa Chambers is a beautiful, driven, hard-working, no nonsense woman to takes pride in leading a drama-free life. Her work ethic and business savvy have made her quite the successful real estate entrepreneur. Even the painful divorce from Collin, her husband of 20 years, couldn't break her . . . or so she thought. As soon as Lisa begins to let go of the past and allow a new love interest into her life, Collin decides that he wants his wife back. Collin Chambers, a high-profile attorney, knows that the betrayal and deception that Lisa learned of was just the beginning of a web of lies and deceit. If anyone ever found out the whole truth his world would be ruined -- both personally and financially. The pressure of keeping his secrets while trying to get his wife back sends Collin into a psychotic spiral which endangers the lives of everyone surrounding him -- including he and Lisa's precious daughter.

As Lisa made her way back to the table through the
crowd she walked right into Collin. “Collin?” Before she
could say anything else, a woman appearing to be about
seven months pregnant stepped from Collin’s side and
stood directly in front of Lisa as though she wanted to
challenge her to a brawl.
“That’s right! Collin is out with his woman and his
baby to be. Whatcha gotta say to that?” Shontel began
rolling her neck looking like she had just stepped out of
the Jordan projects. Not Collin’s type at all. Collin had always
taken pride in being a cautious, educated black man
that did not adhere to the typical stereotypes of blacks.
He had always been very attracted to strong, intelligent,
sophisticated and classy sistahs. This woman was none of
those things. How did he end up with this? “What? Cat
gotcha tongue?” Shontel roared.
Collin tried to hush the woman but to no avail; and
then he just totally disrespected her. “Shut up! You are so
Although Collin had a mean streak and didn’t tolerate
any mess from anyone, he normally would not
disrespect women like that. Lisa stood there in shock,
Lisa was small but allowing someone to get in her face
without any repercussions was rare. She finally pulled
herself together when she heard a deep voice coming
from immediately behind her. While Shontel continued to
parade her belly in Lisa’s face, Michael walked up and
stood closely behind Lisa.
“Hey, how’s everything over here?”
Shontel yelled, “Oh my God! You’re Michael Fontaine.
I’m Shontel.” As if he cared. She reached her hand out to
Michael; he politely shook her hand, wondering if this
could be a friend of Lisa’s.
Can’t Let Go
Shontel went on and on about how much she loved
his music, trying her best to flatter him with compliments.
Michael looked at Collin while she was still talking and
held out his hand to shake Collin’s. “And you are?”
“Collin,” he said while shaking Michael’s hand.
“Oh, nice to meet you.” Michael quickly figured Lisa
was probably feeling quite uncomfortable seeing Collin
and his pregnant girlfriend. Then he thought, He left Lisa
for this?
Shontel blurted out, “Can you save a dance for me?”
Very flirtatious, not caring that her “man” was standing
right next to her. Collin looked at her with disgust and
Michael wrapped his arms around Lisa. “I’m sorry
but I promised my undivided attention to my beautiful
woman here.”
Shontel’s face dropped. “You’re with her?”
“Yes, the light of my life.” He bent over and kissed
Lisa on the corner of her lips. “You ready?”
“Yes,” Lisa managed to murmur in a sigh of relief.
As Michael and Lisa vanished onto the crowded dance
floor, Collin turned to Shontel. “You are a damn idiot.”
Shontel leaned in towards him, almost eye to eye, and
responded, “An idiot that got you by the balls.”
Collin responded, “You have the upper hand for now but
don’t push it. You don’t know who you’re dealing with.”
“Oooh, I’m scared. Remember I know who you are …
or should I say, what you really are. So you can save that
tough guy act for someone else.”
He felt a strong urge to strangle her right then but
he had already lost too much over her. He had to remain
calm for now.

Couldn't Let Go
In CAN'T LET GO, Lisa Chambers has been married to her husband and best friend, Collin, for 20 years. He suddenly wants a divorce because he has been having an affair for the last few months and his mistress is pregnant. Then, in comes famous R&B singer, Michael Fontaine, who is smitten with Lisa from the moment they meet at a casino when her divorce became final. Michael and Lisa hit it off immediately, but she is hesitant to get into a relationship with Michael for fear of getting hurt again. Just when things start looking up for Lisa and Michael, Collin comes back in the picture and threatens to destroy the relationship they have built.

CAN'T LET GO is the kind of book you can see happening in real life. The relationships were real. The story line was incredible. There are issues that come from dealing with relationships and the drama of divorce. CAN'T LET GO was able to hold my attention from the very first sentence. I could see myself as one of the characters in this book or this story happening to someone in real life. It was a quick read for me and hard to put down until the end.
