Lucy and Tom Pocket are twins. They are on their way to the tiny village of Grimstone, a place hardly touched by time, to bury their beloved Granny Hatty.
They drive there with their parents Ann and Charles, expecting the visit will be brief and that they will be leaving straight after the funeral (as they did two years before when they buried their Grandfather).
However during the reading of the will, Lucy and Tom are amazed to learn that their family have inherited their Granny's house, a beautiful cottage called Rose Cottage.
They are astounded that their mother wants them all to stay in the cottage for a few days and Lucy particularly is very upset by this revelation; she was hoping her mother would sell the place and that they'd all come into some money!
When left on their own while their parents go into the village to buy some food, Tom makes a discovery under his bed - it is a letter from their late Granny addressed to Lucy.
Lucy finds out that she has inherited a rare psychic gift, something which runs in the female side of the family. The gift has been used to try to solve the mystery of the village's closed down gallery, which was built by her ancestors. Her Granny hopes Lucy will take up the challenge of trying to open the gallery since it closed unexpectedly over 100 years ago. But there's just one problem - the gallery requires three special keys in order to be opened. One key is in Rose Cottage, one is hidden somewhere in the village and one has been stolen by a Society who wants the gallery for themselves. Will Lucy take up the challenge? Will she find the three keys and unlock the mystery? Will she have the guts to stand up to the Society? Read and find out!
