"Murder! They said it was murder!"
Jamai's lovely face was worried as she drew in a ragged breath. "Someone is dead and we know nothig about it, not even who it is."
The riverboat rocked, breaking into her thoughts. She grasped the rail as she puzzled at the horror toward which she was traveling. Feeling strangely weightless and weak, she found her way to a deck chair and sat down, closing her eyes.
"When we get to Memphis, the truth will be found soon enough. We will get the straight of it," she vowed to herself.
Her anguish eased as she relaxed in the sun. "I'm going home to Memphis-how I've wanted to. But not like this. No, no, not like this."
The ghost of a smile appeared as she recalled her first ride on a riverboat...
