Excerpt

“Being Ahmad's partner, you inherit his responsibility… do you understand you have endangered this mission !” Glaring into Aliyy's eyes. “I want you to give Kahilia a description of this black man, so exact, that any artist could paint his portrait from it, make it excellent, for your life depends on it!”
He signals for Kahilia, a young artist and sometimes playmate. She quickly approaches, carrying pencils and sketchpad, sitting without being asked, alert and ready to draw.
Rashid continues, “Abu al Farid returns in four days time. Help me find this black quickly…or die!” He throws the scimitar between Aliyy's legs, imbedded in the wooden planking of the floor, it swings back and forth like an ominous pendulum.
Aliyy, completely panicked and flustered, mutters “…well…he, eh…is maybe…five feet…er…”
Rashid backhand slaps him, snapping his head, blood trickles from the gash in his cheek caused by Rashid’s ring. “Do not guess…use your training…I want details…you saw enough… be precise, be exact!”
Aliyy closes his eyes, completely tramatized; “He's six feet, 2 inches. 195 pounds, he wears a thin manicured mustache, he has straight white teeth, almond-shaped eyes, skin the color of…”
Kahilia's sketching as fast as she can.
