A young L.A. Sheriff’s lieutenant returns to the notorious Firestone Sheriff’s Station in south L.A. to secretly find evidence of a group of cops suspected of murdering criminals and even other police officers. He returns reluctantly because he is haunted by his previous assignment there and his failure to shoot suspects. A mysterious tipster provides a lead and he and his girlfriend strive to solve the mystery of the tipster and the murders. A crucial mistake leads to a twist ending.

This is a story based on actual events about an ambitious Los Angeles County Sheriff’s lieutenant, Steve Butler, during the late 1970’s who is manipulated by his superiors to return to the notorious Firestone Sheriff’s Station in south-central Los Angeles to build evidence on suspected Sheriff’s deputies his superiors believe are systematically murdering local criminals. Steve Butler is hesitant to return to Firestone because of his tour there as a deputy when he faced the Firestone “Elitists’” scorn for his perceived inability to “pull the trigger” when necessary. His return to Firestone brings about intrigue, murder and an ironic twist with a surprise ending as Steve Butler is used as a pawn by the mysterious killers.

Professional Reviews

Gerald R. Ladhoff, Prof. Emeritus, N. Arizona University
Beeler strips the mantra from television and movie portrayals of grunt-level police work. He thumbs his nose at political correctness...he cleverly castigates the courts, the justice system, politics, politicians and bureaucratic favoritism...his characters are real and recognizable; they exist in every police and sheriff's deparment in the country. He has "walked the walk"..."talked the talk"

Robert P. White, Deputy Chief of Police, Flagstaff, AZ
The story reflects what can happen when the "police"think they are at war with their community. Who becomes the "enemy"? Although the situation is in Los Angeles, this syndrome can occur anywhere that police leaders aren't diligent.
