This is a collect of poems that hits its intended mark of igniting passion in the reader. It is original verses that are reminiscent of Soul Greats like Sarah Vaughn, Etta James, The Temptations, The Chi-Lights and Marvin Gaye, to name a few. You will get misty just holding her hand; you feel like you would rather go blind than to watch her walk away; you will be asking your friends have you seen her; it will evoke a plea of "Oh Girl" when the nuances of words remind you of why you fell in love; then you will realize that sexual heaing is simply one reach across the tangled sheets between you and your lover...it celebrates monogamy, that special kind of love that comes once in a lifetime.

Excerpt

I Want

I want a love
full of promise
lifting me to the next level
Guarded by cherubs
floating near the gate
to my heart.

A love that burrows deep
Infusing the vessel as it
passes taking the maze
that leads to the center
of the universe for me. . .

A love that blossoms
as it's watered
As it's fed the food
the life sustaining nourishment
The all-important substance
to keep me breathing. . .

I want a love
like no other
carrying me on the wind
to light in our place
Just you and me and thee.

I want a love
unending only forever
filled with smiles and care
a soft place to fall
cemented by trust and respect
only we two can share. . .

A love that makes me sizzle
when he's watching me
My glance curls his toes
One that kisses me senseless
One we can feel without seeing. . .

Post 1863 America The Beautiful
"I have read [the book] and gone back several times to read it again many of the poems such as "Hole in The Soul" "Dreams Denied" "The Precious Pie" and "My Prayer" among others. So meaningful to me. I have posted on fb and Visual Bookshelf my comments about this book...Thomasena Martin-Johnson's poignant verses reaffirms truths time and pain blur about life, emotions, dreams birthed and dwindled to ashes for the Native Americans and African Americans. Personal memories for me as African American and a woman are mirrored vividly. Her poems tell of will steeped to persevere through adversity, and act as admonition that "Lest ye forget..." I carry this book with me to read as I reach for support and will to go the next little while. As some might say..."The book was right on time."

Caught Up Midnight Dessert
"This book is intended to spark conversation at the dinner table but ends as pillow talk between you and your better half. It celebrates love, not lust; passion, not pleasure seeking,; monogamy, not promiscuity. The life guiding principles of Caught Up Midnight Dessert are depicted through a course of poems that are intended to be reminders of why we fell in love and a guide for less seasoned readers about the foundation on which lasting love is built, but it never seems diadactic. Have a craving; don't know what you are hungry for? Start with dessert.

---P. Messiah
