A man is murdered and a little girl disappears on their trip to Memphis. Benjamin, a recently freed slave, is with them and becomes the obvious suspect. A highway incident, three generations later, brings the lost families together and reveals what happened to Benjamin and the girl. The story opens with that highway incident and sparks questions from both parties that lead them to further inquiries. That search produces information from the two that answers long-standing questions on both sides. This novel, in the end, demonstrates the higher human qualites from two points of view. Story includes many outdoor action scenes.
