What made June disappear? Penny wants answers but soon learns that there are still dangerous tangled webs of deceit, love, addiction and secrets that trap her mother. A man her mother wrapped her dreams of fame and love around will help her if she is willing to marry a complete stranger. Suddenly Penny is kidnapped! She is forced into becoming a subject in the experimental work her mother chose.

Her father lives in Canada with file drawers jammed with June's diaries. He made a promise to June. He seeks help from June's unstable sister. However she has a plan of her own and her husband only wants revenge against anyone connected with June.

Penny's best friends and her two brothers keep her sane along with her loyal mutt. But when a horrifying hit and run accident occurs Penny realizes some important lessons about trust, love and forgiveness.

Excerpt

His face felt hot with the memories. How many times had he imagined discovering her hurt and unconscious? No amount of worrying could help fix someone and yet he had spent so many, many years trying.
He stumbled out of the bedroom and into the bathroom. He needed to think. He tried to clear his head with icy tap water. It was only for a few minutes. He considered running for help to a neighbor maybe? He couldn't involve the police, not yet. Too many lies and secrets might be exposed. Or he could run far away like Aaron had suggested a few days ago in the lab. No he couldn't leave her like this. He went back to their bedroom. She was gone! He squinted. Shadows formed around the dark looming house as the sun set. He shivered.
