A tiny Cinnabar box contains the key to the water supply of an entire planet. The ecology of the planet depends on a great river that periodically overflows, much like the Nile in Egypt. Only the key's rightful owner can restore the water supply, which has been hidden for centuries. The task needs a trained army – but for the moment, it is in the hands of thirteen-year-old Donna, who has just learned a shocking secret about herself. Donna must survive in an alien reality where magic is commonplace, and where she meets many dangerous beings she previously considered the products of fairy tales. A nightmarish trip to the terrifying Wizard Island, a ghost town that imprisons visitors in its empty houses, and encounters with an evil renegade vizier who is determined to turn the planet into a desert, are just a few of her adventures. Throughout many ordeals, Donna uses her wits and relies on two important facts. First, she must save her kidnapped aunt, whatever it takes. Second, she must never, ever break the Wicca Code!

WHAT DO WITCHCRAFT AND ECOLOGY HAVE IN COMMON?

Who are the Guardians of the Earth? Why is a small lemur as important as a great river? The Cinnabar Box, a newly published, fast-paced adventure/fantasy book for young readers supplies the answers. Many books deal with magic and witchcraft, some books teach environmental appreciation, and other books use myth and legend as their background. This book, the first in the series, is newsworthy since it seamlessly combines these elements in one exciting story.

Ilil Arbel is the author of Maimonides: A Spiritual Biography, two science fictions/fantasy books, Anunnaki Ultimatum and On the Road to Ultimate Knowledge, The Lemon Tree, Miss Glamora Tudor!, Their Exits and Their Entrances, and of many articles and educational materials, including several botanical/pictorial books. Some years ago, she wrote Witchcraft, a curriculum-enrichment book, currently available as a free e-book on Pantheon.org, for the benefit of those interested in the theory behind the Wicca fiction. She contributes regularly to Encyclopedia Mythica, an award-winning online encyclopedia of mythology and folklore.

The Cinnabar Box is available at http://www.amazon.com, http://www.barnesandnoble.com, and CreateSpace eStore: https://www.createspace.com/3582103. It can be ordered at participating bookstores and on-line sellers, and will be also available as a Kindle eBook in June 2011.

The King is Dead , Long Live the Queen
The end of the Harry Potter books has hit children of every age, from six to eighty nine and any point in between. The current style of writing seems to be anything on the theme of the vampire or ‘vampyr’ for the purists but leaves many children cold, or certainly the parents and grandparents who buy the books who see no point in scaring their children out of sleeping. It’s OK for some who like the Goths and EMO’s (and maybe the Visigoths for all I know) who enjoy the macabre but what about the rest?
Well, fear not. An author better known for a book on her grandparents journey from Siberia to Israel, for such things as books on the Ultimate Knowledge of The Anunnaki, our Ancestors from the stars, and I’m not talking Holywood here folks, to a biography on Maimonides, a Jewish philosopher, to a new Chronicle of Barset following the Angela Thirkell theme and countless books on flowers ranging from the wildflower colouring book to one on medicinal flowers, has ridden to your rescue.

With the first book in her new series about the Guardians of the Earth, which is called The Cinnabar Box, we are introduced to Donna, Harry Potter’s replcement and the new stimulus to childish imaginations. Note here that I didn’t say children’s imaginations on purpose as the pace of her first story might just manage to catch the interest of a few adults who fancy themselves as Peter Pan(ish).

Reader Reviews for "The Cinnabar Box; Book One of the Series: Guardians of the Earth"

Reviewed by Lord David Prosser 5/6/2011
I have had the pleasure of reading this book. It's fantastically suitable for children and early teens ( just like me) and has the benefit of not just adventure to enthrall them but none of the things a parent need worry about. No sex, violence or bad language. For all those children who are missing the Harry Potter series, this is the first book in a natural succession.
