Excerpt
She stopped suddenly. Was that the brush of fabric against the stone wall? Was someone coming up behind her? She pressed into a small alcove with a curtain and hid there for a minute to give whomever she may have heard a chance to get by. Nothing. She listened intently. Still nothing. She peeked out of the alcove, seeing nothing and no one, continued up the stairs. She stopped a few times thinking she heard noises but it amounted to nothing. You are just being silly, she said to herself.
After a while, she reached the window. Lighting the candle as promised she set it on the ledge. If anyone saw it they would think nothing of it. She hoped. She continued on, ignoring the feeling she was being followed. Finally, she reached the back door that led to the Queen's bedchamber. All she had to do was open the door, cross the room to where the Queen kept her brushes and place the mirror in a drawer for her to find later. Meri knew from her conversations with Merlin that Mordred was going to gift Guinevere with the necklace at the close of the Queen's birthday party. As soon as he did, the mirror would demand to be found. With luck, Guinevere would find it within the next few days.
Since Lancelot hadn't shown up yet in Camelot, the adventurers weren't sure when he would be here nor how long it would take them to fall in love and have a child. As best they can figure, the child should be born within the year even though the king didn't find out about her until years later. But their job was done as soon as the mirror was delivered. They didn't and couldn't wait around until the actual event. They would know when they got back to Morty's time if it was successful and if nothing else happened to stop it.
Meri reached out her hand to clasp the handle. As she did, another hand caught hers and turned her around, holding her arm firmly. “Well, well. What have we here? It appears we meet again, my lady.” Meri gasped. It was Mordred!
