In this delightful rhyming story, Fifo, a warm and loveable brown bear, gets ready for his first day of school with the help of his caring mother, and his loyal dog, Alan. Fifo explores the endless possibilities of what he can be when he grows up. By the time the school bus arrives, Fifo has been a policeman, a fireman, a doctor, a pilot, a teacher and even the President of the United States.

Fifo The Bear

This is Fifo, he is such a good bear.
He is six years old and has brown fluffy hair.
"Fifo," Mama shouts, "get up and come downstairs."
You see it is the first day of school and Fifo's a bit scared.
So Fifo gets up and brushes his teeth.
He runs downstairs and takes his seat.
"For this special day," Mama smiled, "I have made you a treat.
What is warm and squishy, and really fun to eat?"
"Yummy oatmeal," Fifo laughed, "my favorite!"
"Fifo," Mama says, "you are smart we can see.

"I want to be a Doctor," Fifo said.
"when your tummy hurts, or there's a pain in your head...

Professional Reviews

Books like this are a necessity on your shelf. Both the author and illustrator deserve commendations! In these years when the world is full of fear and uncertainty, you can pull this book and read with your child about "what to be when you grow up". Adorable Fifo reminds us of the pure innocence and wonder about the future from a child's eyes. This is a fantastic book to ground us again and focus on those vital parts of growing up. I am a teacher and can recommend this book as a great learning/discussion tool for your classroom, too!
