Twenty years ago a series of life changing events led Matt to write "Enlightenment for Beginners" which became the basis for forming his own company Inner Vision and were the beginnings of his enlightenment. At the age of 21, as a way of trying to heal his own trauma and psychology, Matt began taking notes which would later be typed up into the manuscript and published into the book you are reading today.
Inside Enlightenment for Beginners, the author guides us gently and clearly through learning to cope with our feelings, mind, body and spirit, attracting a love partner, forgiveness, the psychology of personal repair, meditation, the law of psychosomatics, the seven chakras, aura, your pseudo soul or ego, the feminine principle, goal setting, finding your purpose, principles for decision making and living your purpose wholeheartedly, plus many more chapters for those serious about their own personal development and spiritual growth.
Complete with informative and simple diagrams, exercises and quite a lot of humour, Enlightenment for Beginners is the essential handbook for anyone from those wanting to improve the quality of their life, to those embarking on their own personal enlightenment.
From the Publisher
The cover art is a collaboration between Matt, Laura (the photographer), her three daughters and friend Noor, and Noor's friend's dog "Sandy" all of whom are pictured in silhouette! In some sense this is a family portrait, as Matt says this picture depicts his mother figuratively standing on the shores of the mainland UK with her dog Todd whilst looking over to the Island where Matt lives. Apart from the cover and some minor editing this version is identical to the 1st Edition, both of which are dedicated to his mother.
From the Author
"The aim of this book is largely reparative. I wrote it myself during testing times both emotionally and financially. The principles and aphorisms contained herein became a staff for me at the time and many of these formed the basis of the belief system that supports my psychology. They transformed the most chronic of problems easily and became the cornerstones and building blocks for a brighter, more positive future. Enlightenment for Beginners aims to educate and enlighten you, increase your awareness and give you an expanded view of what we call life. I hope to share this knowledge with you it comes from the depths of my awareness. With understanding and a solid foundation every problem we encounter becomes a way of extending ourselves and transforms into a gift.
After taking "The Road to Recovery" and a short journey within, we can safely and confidently return to the mainstream of life with renewed interest and energy. Seeing where we are now, and how far we have come, allows us to settle into life knowing we are guided, gifted, supported and rewarded, throughout this intrinsic tapestry of life. I hope you have at least as much fun reading Enlightenment for Beginners as I did writing it. If I can help one person walk into the future with an open mind and a grateful heart then it would all have been worthwhile."
About the Author
Having had formal training in electronics and after fourteen years as a relationship coach, workshop facilitator and student/teacher of A Course in Miracles, Matt feels now is a good time to share his Wisdom with the world.
The Feminine Principle.
The feminine will take something into themselves and transform it
into a higher form of love and forgiveness. This goes right back to the
sperm and the egg, where the masculine becomes subsumed into the
feminine and becomes a higher form, which becomes increasingly more
There is only one “real” problem, the illusion of separation. Love
heals separation. Love is the energy that is. Fear is the space that isn’t.
Love heals fear. All miracles involve minds that join—the opposite of
When you are frightened of taking the next step, you invite in a
temptation or problem to distract you from getting on with your life.
Maybe a pseudo lover or someone’s illness? Whatever the form, you are
trying to integrate someone or something where the next step should be.
Like putting the wrong piece in the puzzle. Then you have to let them go
in order to move forward. But you cannot move forward independently,
since Heaven is entered two by two—so enjoy the connection and
know that the next step is on its way. Once you realise this you are no
longer under the illusion, you just feel the separation being healed as
part of the process. Nothing is ever wasted except time. Even our worst
mistakes contain a ray of light and hope, a spark of sanity. Your higher
mind can use whatever you make if you allow it. And mistakes CAN be
Take action to create action. If you are only giving a little, you will
not value what you are giving and will only receive that much. Some
people complain that if they only received a bit more then they would
give a bit more, but only in giving do we open the door to receiving. So
get out there and start giving. Just hold out your hands, open your eyes,
and get ready for a big surprise!
When we are giving and not receiving we are in sacrifice. Sacrifice
and indulgence tire us out because they do not allow us to receive. You
end up exhausted with stressy nerves, or you would if you were a body.
Tired is an anagram of “tried”.
Some of our beliefs need to be changed—some at a time—about
who we are and how unworthy we are. Otherwise we just go on getting
more of the same. We deserve it all but how much are you allowing
yourself to receive?
Try the MOTIVATION WHOOSH. Take a look at where you are now
and all the things (whether true or not) you do not like about the situation
and yourself. Be willing to let that go. Now take some time to
imagine where you want to be in say five year’s time, for example or
even one year’s time. Hold this picture in your mind. When you are
ready, take the bad picture and with all the energy and enthusiasm
you can muster, “WHOOSH” replace it with the picture you do want.
Ask your higher mind to help you with this exercise. It may come to you
in such a way and when you least expect it. Don’t you just love surprises?
We are like cups filled with love and energy, only our cups are
overflowing with the good and bad times from the past, which actually
stop us receiving in the present. If we let go or “pour out” some of the
past it must be replaced with love if love is our intention. The trouble
is most of us are holding on to such small cups. We need to keep
stretching so we can realise a greater capacity to give and receive love.
Ask God or your higher mind to give you a bigger cup, so that when
you fill up and overflow, everyone around you gets to drink from the
fountain as well.

Enlightenment for Beginners is written in such a friendly tone that it's easy to imagine author Matthew Blythe as a kindly teacher or uncle, offering pearls of wisdom in an easy going, down-to-Earth way. This book helps people grasp otherwise elusive, confusing concepts such as: forgiveness, meditation, love, and relationships. Organized into sections having to do with facing and overcoming times of tremendous challenge in life, Enlightenment for Beginners provides those in the midst of life crises a helping hand, a positive perspective, and a great deal of hope.
What makes Enlightenment for Beginners such a delight is the way it is sprinkled with homespun sayings such as, "Life is like a jigsaw puzzle with the picture on both sides. The straight edges are your principles. The rest is up to you." Blythe frequently reminds us that we live our richest lives when we are fully involved, emotionally honest, and interacting with the world and people around us. This book contains a fabulously inspirational message that encourages each of us to lighten up, loosen up, and become irresistible, just being ourselves... and rest assured that, "Truth and Happiness will get you in the end."

This book feels as if it is written just for me! A student of Plato apparently once said, 'How can I listen to what you say, when who you are is ringing in my ears'. This book rings with authenticity, personal passion and deep caring. It does not have the tone of a removed academic, but feels like a personal and true friend, to be kept close, and to be picked up and communed with, when in need. It is a reminder to stay awake and committed when one forgets or is tired. With some humour, it is a light but deep call to awaken with courage to our true purpose.
Paul Armfield - Manager - Waterstone's Isle of Wight
