Is it Revenge ... Or is it Justice?

Glenda Ivey, Author

Silent Revenge ... A touching and moving story with a range of emotions. This dramatic page-turner is the debut offering of Glenda Ivey

How far will a poor girl, raised in a North Georgia mill town, go to get revenge against her snobbish mother-in-law. Is it really revenge or is it justice?

Young Sarah suffers the loss of everyone she's ever loved and is left to live with neighbors and an employer, never having a home of her own. She's sure all the struggling and heartbreak is over when she and Alan Meade elope right before he goes off to WWII. Her beloved Alan returns in a flag-draped casket, and Sarah is left with an infant that her wealthy mother-in-law refuses to accept as her grandson.

Alone and homeless once again, Sarah  has to dig deep inside herself to find the strength and courage that will change her life. Sarah furthers her education and becomes a respected member of society, but the method she chooses to get revenge against her hateful mother-in-law reflects a whole other side of Sarah. She takes the chance of losing Carl, a prominent attorney, who adores her and her young son, but she carries out her revenge to the bitter end.

Professional Reviews

Bobbie Christmas, Author, Editor. Owner: Zebra Communications Editorial Service. Past President of Georgia Writers Assn.
"The settings in Silent Revenge are supremely clear, and some of the scenes are so poignant that I was touched. The Christmas scene is one of the most stirring ones I've ever read. Brought me to tears. Those types of scenes make or break a book, and when I read a passage like that one, I know I'm reading the work of a talented writer. Good authors put us into a scene and force us to live it. Glenda Ivey can do that."

This beautifully written book grabs the heartstrings in the first chapter. A young girl is confronted with her dead mother, the only person in her little world. Chapter to chapter, we follow young Sarah as she is rescued by kind people, time and time again, only to lose them in turn. Then comes romance, followed almost inevitably by new tragedy, and half way into the book, we meet the enemy: Sarah's mother-in-law who refuses to acknowledge her.

I won't give away Sarah's revenge. It's original, and very, very fitting. The writing in this book is technically excellent, with lucid, clear prose, vivid description and lively characterization.

Nothing is perfect, and if this book could be improved it's in a few chapters before the satisfying end. The meticulous, vivid style of much of the book was replaced by a more summary treatment for a while. However, despite this, the story is wonderful, and very well told. Glenda Ivey deserves recognition for her fine writing, and I wish her success, both with this book and in the future.

Joy Satterfield, TV Host - Good News Program
"Silent Revenge is a heart-touching story from beginning to end. You will lose yourself in this book as you experience Sarah's life -- her pain, her frustrations, her strength, her joy. Glenda Ivey clearly connects with her readers. This is a book to be shared among girlfriends."

Reader Reviews for "Silent Revenge"

Reviewed by Jackie Miller 5/11/2002
Silent Revenge was a liberating book to read. Ms. Ivey created a main character, Sarah, that you can't help but cheer on! I still question whether her mother-in-law was worth the time and effort Sarah put forth in seeking justice but the path she took led her to a happy ending and a life at peace:)
