Christmas Eve
A Poem
by Gwenna D’Young
The moon was shining, the snow was white and the night was crisp and cold.
The Star was hung, the tree was in place, while the colored lights twinkled and glowed.
Daddy was there, sitting in his chair, as he read us a bedtime tale.
We sat at his knee, in our pajamas with feet, all snuggly warm by the fire.
Momma came in, with a huge grin, handing us all cocoa and cookies.
“Don’t eat them all,” she said with a smile, “leave some for Santa Clause.”
When the story was done, there was no hurry to run, to our beds ‘cause we wanted to see.
The kinds of treats, that the Big Man would eat, while he put our gifts under the tree.
There were cookies and milk, on the plate that would sit out, as well as biscuits for the reindeer.
Momma left him a note, on which we all wrote, “Thank you Santa, we’ll see you again, next year!”
Hugs and kisses from us, from the tallest to the smallest, Jacob, Dana, Heather and Baby Celeste!
P.S.
Thank you,
Dasher and Dancer, Prancer and Vixen, Comet and Cupid, Donner...and Blitzen.
“Shhh,” Momma said, “It’s time to go to bed, good night and sleep tight; time to turn out the lights.”
