...stationed in Fort Mead Maryland. I was a cook for the first seven or eight months. The I got this fantastic deal on night baking. I worked by myself at night for a couple of hours. I didn't put a uniform on again while I was in the Army. My favorite thing was to make thousands of ice box cookies and roll them up in wax paper and put them in the deep freeze. I would tell the main cooks to change the menu to ice-box coookies instead of cake...I was going to Virginia to ride around for a while.
