This is just a sampling of the book I am currently working on. Adam Healy and Zach Reed, former CIA operatives, have been targeted, and it is up to the old team to get back together again and find out who is behind it.

By the time Rachel Tolson’s call went through to Adam Healy, Reed had already shot and killed the intruder. Healy, on the other hand, was in the midst of his own issues. Tolson could hear glass breaking in the background, and what sounded like a struggle.

“Zach, Adam is in trouble…we have to get over there!” She shouted to reed as he was placing flex cuffs on the dead person laying in his kitchen.

“I’m on it…” He said, working quickly to get to his garage. “You have to come with me, but you have to stay in the car. I mean it, Rachel, don’t get out until I tell you it’s safe.”

“He’s my brother! I’m not just going to leave him to fight for himself!”

Reed grabbed her arm and pulled her with him to his garage. “Do you still hear him on the other end?”

“All I hear is stuff being slammed around and grunting…”

“He’s still kicking then, don’t worry. We’ll get to him, I promise.” He held her hand for a moment before speeding off toward Healy’s residence.

Within five minutes, they reached Healy’s residence, and found his garage door wide open, but no one inside. Reed parked on the street, checking for unknown vehicles, of which he found none.

“Stay here, don’t move, in fact, crouch down until I come get you, understand?” His voice bore no trace of levity.

She nodded, and leaned the seat back for some form of concealment.

Reed drew his weapon and made his way to the garage; a visual scan of the area showed no one around, and no sounds of distress or scuffling. He carefully entered the garage and saw Claire Healy’s Mercedes sedan had the back windshield broken out of it, with a smear of blood running down the trunk. Reed felt his body tense up more so than it already was, as he put his hand on the door that lead into the house and slowly pushed it open. He saw nothing but the dark sillouhets of furniture and a small amount of light coming from the kitchen down the hallway. To his left was a secondary staircase to the second floor of the house, but it was too dark to see into it. Reed knew he was walking in practically blind, but he needed to find Healy as quickly as possible.

He took two steps into the darkened hallway when the smell of death hit him; there was a body close by, and he found it the next moment with his right foot. His mind immediately hoped it was not Healy, but he didn’t have time to dwell on that, as he suddenly felt cold steel pressed against his temple. A chill ran down his spine all the way to his toes, and he felt his heart stop for a split second. The worst feeling in the world spread over him in an instant and he felt in his knees the urge to buckle.

“Move and I will blow your fucking head off.” A low voice growled.

Reed felt his heart beat again, and barely choked out the words, “Jesus Adam it’s me!”

“Zach?” Healy asked.

“Yes its Zach…would you mind taking the gun away from my head?!”

Healy pulled his pistol back and stepped into the dim light. “Thought you were another one of them…”

“No, where is Claire is she safe?”

“I locked her in the bedroom upstairs, she’s safe. Rachel?”

“Good, in the car. You clear the house?”

“Yeah, just as you pulled up. Didn’t see who it was. What are you doing here, anyway?”

“Felt like a drive…might have something to do with the dead guy on my back deck.” Reed said.

“They hit you too?” Healy’s face was grave.

“Fifteen minutes ago, maybe less. You think this was coordinated?”

“You know I don’t believe in coincidence…”

Reed nodded.

“Go grab Rachel, bring her inside. And try to call Mark, see if he had any unsuspecting visitors like we did. I’ll try Jeremy and Amy.”

Reed acknowledged Healy and took off outside, still with his weapon drawn. He pulled his cell phone out and hit the speed dial for Mark Galloway.

Adam Healy and Zach Reed are being targeted. The first thought is that they must protect their charge, their best friend's daughter, Amy. What they find out is far more disturbing and goes deeper into the CIA than even the former operatives themselves can imagine.
