Conservatives allege licentiousness swamped family values, sending the American character into a tailspin from which not even Nixon, Reagan, and Bush were able to raise us. These charges of moral decay have been used to rewrite history, making war protesters into cowards and traitors, civil rights workers into agitators and subversives, and hippies into degenerates and addicts.
