Moonlight is a fantasy novel dealing with war, tragedy, and hope.
In Moonlight, demons have broken free from thralldom and invaded the land of Deloria. Five Guardians, granted magical powers, are chosen to defend Deloria from the demons. Alaefin, a young farmer, knows nothing of this conflict until Ilyra, a Guardian, uproots him from his secluded life. She explains the peril their world faces and informs him that he is to become one of the five. Together they leave to join forces with the other Guardians and attempt to save Deloria.
The creatures overran the defenders, slaughtering human after human.
One woman cowered against the marble, shielding a small child with her arms as her husband stood in front of her, trying to protect them. A giant flaming sword ended his life and the baby was wrenched from the woman’s grasp and killed. The woman, her abdomen rotund from another child, turned and fled, disappearing into the night.
All the others died one by one, their blood pooling onto the marble, armor rent and bows shattered. The horde of demons, greedy eyes glowing, gathered around the carnage they had wrought, the beauty they had desecrated.
The largest, a huge troll, said in a low, evil voice, “The Temple of the Light is ours.”
