Excerpt

The night before their trip home to Dallas, Trace and Aria had decided on staying in and watching a movie. Tomorrow they would catch a late afternoon flight with Tate and his family as they had planned. Tate and Phadra had invited them over for soup and sandwiches, but they had turned down the invitation. Trace had went out for some Chinese food that they would indulge in while watching the movie Aria had electronically rented from her on-line movie subscription that played directly on the television.
“Is everything ready to go?” Trace asked Aria as he carried a tray with the glasses of wine and a half full bottle on it. Aria had told him of her ritual of sometimes watching a movie with a glass of wine and Chinese food, and he would indulge her tonight.
“Yep. I’m ready.” Aria enthusiastically said, stretching her legs out on the couch. She had returned home after work today and packed the last of her things she’d be taking home with her. Afterwards, she washed and dried her hair which was now neatly brushed back down her back in a flowing stream of curls. She had showered and dressed in a silky, figure-flattering, coral lounging dress that skimmed her thighs in a flirtatious manner. On her feet were her customary crazy knee-length socks in a coral shade with aqua blue seashells on them. She had decided on wearing the comfortable outfit because she no longer felt subconscious and awkward around Trace.
Trace eyes had carefully scanned every inch of Aria’s appearance when she came out of the room earlier. She had no idea what havoc she was playing on his body, looking the way she did. The clingy dress molded to her curves in a provocative way that instantly made his groin hardened with lust. God help him to get through this night without doing something they both might regret later. “Here you go Miss Manning. I believe we’re ready to start the movie.” He announced, flopping on the opposite end of the couch where she was seated.
“Roll ‘em.” She teased, picking up her wine glass and sipping a taste.
The movie had been a great selection, Trace thought as the credits ran across the screen. He had never thought that he would enjoy a sappy love story, but was glad to admit that he was wrong this time. Aria had sat quietly throughout the movie. Several times he glanced over and found her staring dreamily at him like she used to do when she was a teenager. This time it hadn’t irked him like it used to. For some strange reason, he basked in her attentive looks and coy smiles. “I must admit this movie was indeed a good one. I hadn’t suspected it to be. I remembered the sappy movies that you and your girlfriends used to watch. Yet, this one wasn’t at all like your normal selections of the past. I like your choice this time.” Trace acknowledged in a sultry tone. He had noticed that Aria was still looking at him in the same way from earlier and his blood was slowly simmering from her flirtatious glances. “What do you want to do now?”
Aria’s mind hastily generated several options that they could do now; but she wouldn’t openly declare them to him. Sipping a tiny bit of wine, she seductively ran her tongue over her lips and just continued to gawk at him. That display made Trace’s blood heat up more rapidly with intense fire and lust for her. “I don’t know. Have any suggestions?” Aria teasingly remarked as she felt her honeypot simmer with escalating warmth and something she couldn’t understand or recognize. She was feeling quite playful and lucid. She must have misjudged her limit of alcohol consumption tonight because she was now feeling extremely giddy and unrestrained with her actions.
A playful smile swept across Trace’s face after hearing Aria’s words. She must be a little tipsy to be teasing him the way she did. Something inside of him wanted to test her resolve and see how far she would go with her flirting. Yet on the other hand, he knew that he couldn’t do that for fear that their enticing play might go too far between them. His hormones were daring him to test her, but common sense refuted their constant provoking. Rising to his feet, he stretched his arms above his head and proclaimed, “I’m hitting the sack. I’m tired and need some rest.” Picking up the empty food containers, and his now-empty wineglass, he stacked them on the tray and took them to the kitchen to dispose of them. When he returned back to the living room, Aria had turned off everything and was standing in the middle of the room with a searing glint of wanting in her eyes. “Are you ready to go to bed Aria?” he asked her before turning to leave the room.
“Yes. Am I sleeping in bed with you tonight?” Aria acquiesced with a seriousness to her voice that sent chills down Trace’s spine. Her body was ablaze with the fervor need to be in Trace’s arms tonight. She had dreamed about a moment like this for a long while and knew the time had come to make this dream a reality.
Trace became completely still and unmovable in the spot where he stood. He couldn’t have heard Aria right? There was no way possible that she could be referring to what he thought she was. Was she playing some sort of game with him? If so, he wasn’t in the mood for childish pranks now. “Good night Aria.” He groaned out, deciding to ignore what she had just said. “See you in the morning.” He slowly sauntered away, leaving Aria to stare after him.
Aria’s heart sank with rejection when she heard Trace close the bedroom door behind him. Had she gone too far with her flirtation? She may have; but didn’t regret her action. She really wanted to be in his arms tonight. Every fiber in her being sang with the anticipation of lying down with and making love to Trace. That had been a fantasy of hers since she was sixteen and one day she would surely fulfill her fantasy.
