The man stood there, in an open field, eyeing the woman in disgust. His long hair was dancing in the light breeze of wind that wrapped itself around them. The spring night had turned cool, in the small town in Delaware. The little ranch style house sat dark and empty, on the hillside. The corn fields to the north of the house had become overgrown; rotten from being unkempt. There wasn't a soul for miles, except for the three in the lonely field.
The man looked at the dogs laying in the tall grass. The mangy creatures laid just perfectly still, as though they wear dead or made of stone. The dogs almost as though a gust of wind would make them dissipate into nothing. He turned his attention back to the problem before him. Shifting his weight from his left foot to his right and then crossing his arms he decided to reiterate the question.
“What do you mean 'you can't'?” he asks. He wasn't entirely sure that the stupid girl understood how things worked.
“It's just not right! Please, don't make me do this! I can't! It's wrong!”
“I'm not making you do anything. You called me, remember?”
“I know, I'm sorry! It's all a mistake! I've changed my mind! I don't want to do this!” she begs.
He rolled his eyes at the pathetic plea before him. He was getting tired of the same old song and dance from the same old boring species. These people no longer amused him.
“You know it doesn't work that way. You called me to fulfill your wish. That's what I'm going to do.”
“Nooo! Please don't do this! You'll kill him!” she screams, grabbing his arm.
He looked deep into her eyes. He could see the remorse clawing itself across her forehead. It always came down to this moment. They never understand what was happening, until this moment.
“That is the idea, yes. It was your wish. Not mine. I am merely granting it.”
“But I didn't wish for him to die!”
“No but you wished for ire. You wanted retribution for what he did to you. I am retribution. I am WRATH!"
In a empty field, far away from the highway, Wrath stood with Susannah. He knew this time would come and he always lived for it. He looked down at the sobbing woman next to him and smiled a sinful smile.
He shook his arm free from Susannah's grasp and waves his hands high in the air.
The two dogs nearby, instantly came to life. They were waiting on their master and the time had come. Quickly they began to bark demonically, and run back and forth, growling and snarling sadistically. It was time.
Susannah covers her mouth to muffle her shriek of terror. She could not fathom that her cries and implores for revenge did not fall on deaf ears.
“PLEASE!” she pleads one last time. “Don't do this. You don't have to do this!”
“You're right,” Wrath replies. “I don't have to do this. I want to. Now step aside or your next.”
Susannah falls to her knees as tears stream down her face. She could implore no longer, for fear of her own fate.
She sees a black wave flow out of Wrath, like a horde of insects flying through the air.
She watches in horror as the black wave soared over to her ex-boyfriend and surrounds his body.
James had committed a mortal sin in her eyes; he had cheated on her with her best friend.
He didn't stand a chance as the black wave attacked him. He tried to bat it away by flailing around like a mad-man. His yells, twists and turns did not save him.
The wave entered his eyes, nose and mouth. He falls to his knees and clutches his throat.
His eyes roll back into his head as bruises appear all over him at a very fast pace. Blood starts to pour out of his mouth, nose and eyes. He thrashed his head around violently and started to gurgle. Finally he collapsed face first onto the ground; forever free from his torment.
Susannah looks up at Wrath with tears in her eyes. She could not contain her emotions.
“You choose his final path in life,” Wrath boasted with a grand smile. “I only helped him get there.”
