The stuffy classroom seemed built specifically with one thing in
mind: Detention. It was a vintage 1969 “Alcatraz” constructed of cinder block squares showing off scuff-marked yellow paint, and desks lined up prison perfect.
Seventeen-year-old Cuffy Landers, one
of the convicted, disconnected himself from the whispered taunts
directed at him from the back of the room. He cursed under his
breath for allowing himself to get caught chewing gum in the first place.
The principal, who was the “Chief Justice of the Supreme Court
of Flynn City High”, had struck down his defense in claiming it was
“Aspergum” issued by the school nurse for a sore throat.
“You would have to have a neck the length of a giraffe to need a wad of
Aspergum as big as you were chewing on,” the principal said.
Perry Mason, the television lawyer, could not have gotten him off
after that summation. The gum was only the first charge; it was the
pack of matches, and half of a smoked cigarette that fell out of his
jacket in front of the shop teacher that did him in.
He could have reduced his sentence by a day had his neck been as long as a giraffe.

"I loved this book! It is a great read. The characters are believable in every way. You've seen them in your own neighborhood I am betting. Never read a book by this author before. Hope he writes more. (Have to look to see if he has any others, I don't know at the moment.) He describes places in the book quite nicely, you can conjure them up in a sec with his words. I didn't want it to end! Maybe a sequel, find out what ole' Cuffy is up to later in life? :) It might remind you of being in high school, it did me. Most definitely recommend this book."

"I happened to read this around Easter...I loved the story. Ronnie Ray Jenkins has a gift of bringing his characters to life in a way that makes you feel you know them personally. Loved the ending. I look forward to reading more of his works."

I read this book with fascination...the characters come to life in such a way that you feel as though you are actually in Flynn City. The story line is fantastic with a great deal of humor. It's a great Easter Story and one definitely worth reading! Anxiously awaiting this author's next masterpiece!!"
