Vice of men consuming greed, the defense awakens near too late.
Hell hound and full moon, what price a demon to defend the light? Book VI in the Chronicles of Nublis and Book 2 in the Felix Trilogy

When Felix de Morel awakens from a fifteen-year coma to a wife he no longer knows and a son he´s never seen, he finds that his legendary thousand-year-old estate, La Chasse, has been targeted for destruction by a pair of ambitious commercial land developers. The power-hungry Lucas Smith and his corrupt partner Monty will stop at nothing to get their hands on La Chasse´s thousands of acres. Beset by enemies on every side and with nary a friend in sight, Felix reluctantly summons a magical force from his past. Even though he knows this action may cost him his life and everything he holds dear, he has his own urgent reasons for maintaining La Chasse intact at all costs; and in the end, Lucas Smith learns far more about the enigmatic Count de Morel and La Chasse´s dark secrets than he ever wanted to know.

Excerpt

Aaron saw a dark figure on a hill behind the animals. It stood between them and the sun, and its shadow fell on the ground like a finger, pointing. Above the figure, leaden clouds filled the sky, their gray bellies gravid with ice, hail and snow. The sun disappeared and the wind began to howl. Snowflakes swirled and hail fell from the sky like stones. As the panicked animals fled from the dark figure and the coming storm, the unicorn stumbled and fell.

A man emerged from the mansion and went toward the fallen beast. Kneeling with its head cradled in his arms, he looked up at the hill on which Aaron and Julian stood. The animals had gathered behind the man and the fallen unicorn, and stood as if waiting for something.

The dark figure strode across the hills toward them, and when it reached the kneeling man, it raised its hand. It held a weapon of some kind and a gout of crimson fire shot out from its tip, enveloping man and unicorn alike. The animals scattered in panic and began to run in all directions. As it watched them, the figure laughed. Then it began picking them off, one by one. After the last creature was reduced to a smoking heap on the icy ground, the figure raised its hand again and pointed at the mansion. A shaft of red flame streaked toward it and engulfed the gray walls in raging fire. As the ancient house burned and fell, a shuddering howl issued from the earth beneath it.

That cry of anguish struck Aaron like a physical blow. He had never heard anything like it in his life and prayed he never would again.
