M is for Manners
M IS FOR MANNERS is the first book in what could develop into a wonderful series of “Abbey & Friends” books for the younger crowd. Not only does the story contain a vital message that is critical to growing up, but also its whimsical characters will delight any child.
Abbey is a typical third grade girl. Playtime is great, but it is an invitation to her friend’s house for dinner that has her excited. However, her mother reminds both Abbey and her brother to remember their manners. While Abbey knows her manners, sometimes it’s easy to forget…
Mary Jesse pens a charming story that contains a few surprises, too. Illustrator Jennifer Cherif hides ladybugs and blue hexagons in almost every picture. We flipped through the pages three times just to make sure we hadn’t missed anything. Also to be found within M IS FOR MANNERS are some adorable bookmarks and slideshow clips of Bugsy the Ladybug’s adventures. Kind of a game within a story, Mary Jesse’s book is sure to please any reader. -Round Table Reviews October 2003
M is for Manners
This short, delightful children’s book is geared for the 3-10 year old range. Amusing illustrations face short dialog blocks that are used to teach young ones how to behave in all kinds of different, and sometimes difficult, situations where manners could play a part.
Abby and her best friend, Sarah, Max (Abby’s little brother) and of course, Mom and Dad, are the main characters in this book, which has just enough balance between illustration and narrative to captivate the kiddies and keep them riveted.
The author has displayed her personal experience to illustrate and teach this fun, easy to read short story form, sure to keep young reader’s interested. More importantly, it encourages learning, a most important aspect of growing social skills. -Diane Sewell October 2003
