From love to laughter, heartache to joy, this collection represents the entirety of the life of V. Artemis Reyd thus far. With such dark pieces as "Spiders" and "Nightmare", she opens up the shadows and the fears they held for her during some her deepest moments of depression.
SPIDERS
grasping the frail vein of her fading sanity
she feels the sweat bead on her forehead
her fingers ache as she hangs on
one day more
her eyes fall downward to the depths below
the beating of her heart moves faster
she catches her breath
it's so far to fall
the strand she holds vibrates
black spiders scale her
lifeline wearing the hungry faces of her darkest fears
i'm so afraid
a scream sticks in her throat
as the spiders cover her
she has no strength left to fight them
it's been too long
in an agonizing moment of despair
she realizes she has been defeated
she can hold on no longer
i'm sorry
She lays her love life bare in such tumultuous offerings as "Les Saisons d'Amor", an ode to her husband, and "Into Your Ocean", a tale of love gone wrong.
LES SAISONS D’AMOUR
Dedicated to Steven C. Roberts
Spring brought newfound love,
glistening droplets of dew
on a rosebud yet unfurled.
My heart spoke to me
through the melody of your voice.
I was afraid of what you offered:
peace and understanding
of a past from which
I ran full throttle.
Summer warmed an unwilling heart,
tempered by the golden sun,
brightening my inner darkness.
Your patience was depthless,
allowing my insecurities
to play themselves out
as I tried to push you away
in half-hearted frustration:
How could you love me?
Autumn winds kissed away tears
spilling like cooling rain
against roots long intertwined.
Your duty called you elsewhere,
leaving me alone again
with only the promise of your return.
My heart cried out, reminded:
how many others had said the same?
If you loved me, why did you leave?
Winter came in a flurry of snow,
blanketing the world in a fresh beginning,
clearing the encroaching dark with forgiveness.
Snowflakes dusted the growing mountain
alive with new life beneath my breasts.
I loved you, so handsome in your uniform,
your hand trembling in mine,
sharing the same unfounded fears
as we recited our wedding vows.
Spring celebrated a vibrant rebirth,
new life brought forth in a brush of color,
painted in pink, blue and gold.
Our hearts sang together, melodious,
at the sight of our love given form
in the perfection we created together.
My doubts erased with your tender kiss
and a whispered sigh, "I love you",
As you laid our first born son in my arms.
The years passed through a whirlwind,
chasing leaves through different locales,
the breath of Yule uncovering another joy
born from a moment of springtime bliss.
We have grown through the experiences
as husband and wife, lovers and friends,
no longer afraid of the seasons before us.
From beginning to end, she reaches out to you in hopes of saving you from the same fate, or perhaps to lend an ear from someone who has been in some of the darkest places life has to offer.
