"Do you always get up this early?" he asked eyeing the clock above the sink for accuracy.
"Usually, yes. Why, don't you?" She finally looked straight at him and he felt a tingle run through him. A tingle, My God, he was too old to tingle from a girl's glance. Good grief he must be asleep. Men don't tingle. But she had a nice smile, genuine. And she was in a good mood and cooking breakfast. In fact he rather liked this sunny disposition in the morning. Problem was, since they'd arrived here, he hadn't found one thing wrong with Kia. In fact, he liked her. And knowing it was going absolutely nowhere, he decided he'd better back off. Things were going much smoother when they were fighting.
"Not unless I have to, no," he grumbled not liking the way the sight of her ignited his interest, more than his interest. Parts of his body were awake that he would have preferred not awaken.
"But if you want breakfast you'll have to get up early. I'm not changing my routine for you or anyone else. When I go back to work at the factory, I don't want to be spoiled to sleeping in."
"Go back to work?" He nearly choked on his coffee. "I thought we agreed you weren't going back to work."
"I mean, when this is all over," she corrected, sitting in the chair opposite him.
She took a bite of egg and chewed. Heaven forbid but she had a sexy way of chewing that annoyed him no end. Maybe it would have been better to have gotten the ugliest girl in the plant to marry him. At least he wouldn't be wondering what it might be like to kiss her oh so soft lips again, and cuddle her rounded curves against him. Comparing her to any girl he'd been with was impossible. Kia was soft, voluptuous and curvy, not rock hard and solid like most of the girls he'd known that spent their waking hours in a gym. Dammit, he wanted to touch her.
When this is all over? The words echoed in his head. He hadn't been thinking that far ahead. Why had she? And over didn't sound good this early in the morning either.
Was that her subtle way of reminding him that this was only a temporary arrangement? Now she was reminding him? It should have been the other way around. He should be having to remind her. Still, it was no longer on his mind. He wasn't thinking in time frames.
A year! That hadn't sounded so temporary to him a few days ago. Now it seemed as though the clock were ticking against him.
A week ago it would have sounded like forever.
