"Here they are then," said Jed as he came out of the kitchen carrying a tray of freshly made chocolates. Sparky and Toby followed. Jed handed round the chocolates.
Jayne had never tasted such chocolaty chocolate before. As the solid turned to liquid, and melted down her throat, she could think of nothing but chocolate. Vaguely she was aware that Michael was looking at the calendar, was in fact opening the third pocket. She saw him take something out. But it was as if she was watching a film. She just couldn't feel that she was in the same place as him.
Then the chocolate was finished. The soothing velvety feeling left her mouth. Her concentration came back. Now she was more awake than ever. Perhaps this wasn't going to be so hard after all. She was about to ask Michael what he had found. But as she opened her mouth he suddenly started to grow smaller and smaller. The third pocket of the advent calendar appeared to be pulling him in. Then it snapped shut just like when you pushed the button on her dad's measuring tape. Michael had disappeared. He had completely disappeared.
